My Final Mock Draft for 2006
Round 1 (updated 4/28)
1. Houston Texans: Reggie Bush, Halfback, USC
Houston makes the pick that everyone thinks they will. There's talk of Mario Williams here, but the fans would not be happy at all. The reasons the Texans told them they weren't going to take hometown hero Vince Young is because Bush is too good to pass on. Getting caught in their lie would be catastrophic tothis team right now. They don't want Young because they spent too much money on David Carr and wouldn't be able to get rid of him.

2. New Orleans Saints: Mario Williams, Defensive End, NC State
The Saints need alot of help on both sides of the ball. With the signing of Drew Brees, it seems silly to get another QB when there are so many other needs all over the field. WIlliams is a phenomenal talent, and the Saints wisely pick him up here.

3. Tennessee Titans: Matt Leinart, Quarterback, USC
There is talk of Vince Young here, but Norm Chow really wants to be reuinted with Matt Leinart. Remember the success these two had together at USC? The Titans wisely pick up Leinart to groom Leinart to replace Steve McNair, and when he does replace McNair, look out. This team will be amazing to watch.

4. New York Jets: D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Offensive Tackle, Virginia
Easily the best tackle prospect to come out of college since Orlando Pace went 1st over all a few years back. THe Jets would like a quarterback, but only would take Leinart at this spot. If the Titans opt for Vince Young, the Jets pick up Leinart here. If they get Ferguson, this offense will instantly become much better.

5. Green Bay Packers: A.J. Hawk, Outside Linebacker, Ohio State
The Packers made a mistake last season by not getting any help on the defensive side of the ball. They committed to Aaron Rogers and now with both Vince Young and Jay Cutler sitting here at number 5, they wish they could have picked up Derrick Johnson or Daryl Blackstock last year and gotten Favre's heir in this draft. But with the heir fimly instilled, they get the defense they sorely need. This Packer defense will be a TON better because of the additions on Hawk and Charles Woodson.

6. San Francisco 49ers: Jimmy Williams, Cornerback, Virginia Tech
The Niners would love to trade out of this pick because there just isn't anybody to fill their needs worthy of being the 6th overall pick. They can't find a trade partner, so they go ahead and pick up a guy who will be a shutdown corner in this league for many years.

7. Oakland Raiders: Vince Young, Quarterback, Texas
Al Davis has made no secret of his liking for Vince Young. We all know that what Al Davis wants, Al Davis gets. This is a horrible draft choice by the Raiders, but Al Davis will make it happen. With Aaron Brooks for the present and Andrew Walter for the future, they have no need to waste this pick on another QB. They really could use some offensive line help and the defense needs to get younger. They could even stand to gain a running back or wide reciever (or maybe Vernon Davis??), but Al Davis decides to waste this pick.

8. Buffalo Bills: Haloti Ngata, Defensive Tackle, Oregon
The Bills get a huge body to fill up the defensive front. He is very similar to the departed Sam Adams, and they hope that he'll return them to the success they had when Adams was healthy.

9. Detroit Lions: Jimmy Williams, Cornerback, Virginia Tech
The Lions finally draft on the correct side of the ball. As a result, they get a great talent at corner. He could grow into a shutdown corner similar to Champ Bailey given the right coaching.

10. Arizona Cardinals: Jay Cutler, Quarterback, Vanderbilt
Cutler goes ahead of Vince Young because of his great combine. The Cardinals get a great player who they can bring along slowly because of Kurt Warner being with the team. Arizona is thrilled to get a talent like this at #10.

11. St. Louis Rams: Vernon Davis, Tight End, Maryland
It's tough to imagine Davis in a Rams uniform, but how can you expect St. Louis to pass on such an incredible player. He will become a star in St. Louis.

12. Cleveland Browns: Brodrick Bunkley, Defensive Tackle, Florida State
Romeo Crennel knows defense. He also knows that his defense is just plain bad. If you want to win, you have to stop the run. Bunkley will go a long way towards stopping teams from running all over the Browns.

13. Baltimore Ravens: Winston Justice, Offensive Tackle, USC
With running back no longer a concern with Jamal Lewis and Mike Anderson in the backfield, look for the Ravens to address their next most pressing need: offensive tackle. The only reason Justice falls this far is concern over a knee injury sufferred last year.

14. Philadelphia Eagles: Chad Greenway, Outside Linebacker, Iowa
What they need is a reciever to replace Terell Owens. Unfortunately, this is the wrong draft to go out looking for a top notch wide reciever. They settle for help at their next most pressing need: outside linebacker.

15. Denver Broncos: Santonio Holmes, Wide Reviever, Ohio State
NYJ, Atl, and Den complete a 3-team deal with NYJ's DE John Abraham, Den's 3rd rnd, 4th rnd to Atl, Atl's 1st rnd (15th ovrl) to Den and Den's 1st rnd (29th ovrl) to NYJ.
The Broncos make an amazing deal. All they have to trade is a 3rd and 4th round pick and the 29th overall to get the 15th overall. They have a need for depth at quite a few positions. They get the best player at one of their many need positions still on the board in Holmes.

16. Miami Dolphins: Ernie Sims, Outside Linebacker, Florida State
This kid is a tackling machine. The Dolphins get an incredible player. He'll make an immediate impact to the already solid Dolphins defense. The may also decide to go with Cromatie, but they're solid enough at corner that they can afford to go elsewhere.

17. Minnesotta Vikings: Laurence Maroney, Halfback, Minnesotta
The Vikings are disappointed that Cutler doesn't fall to them. Instead, they settle for the kid from Minnesotta. He'll be playing at home on Sundays and the fans will absolutely love him. The Vikings need a consistent running back, and Maroney is just that. A no-brainer at #17.

Check out my sponsor: Totally legitimate offer.
18. Dalls Cowboys: Tye Hill, Cornerback, Clemson
Bill Parcells goes out and gets a great corner with huge upside to help that defense out. May not make an immediate impact, but will be great for this defense in the future.

19. San Diego Chargers: Antonio Cromatie, Cornerback, Florida State
The Chargers would love to add a wide reciever, but with LT, the Bolts will be decent enough on offense. What they really need to improve is that defense that let them down time and time again last year.

20. Kansas City Chiefs: Ashton Youboty, Conerback, Ohio State
The best defensive back on the board. He could be a solid nickel back or a decent starting corner in the NFL and will help to solidify this Cheif defense.

21. New England Patriots: Kameiron Wimbley, Outside Linebacker/Defensive End, Florida State
Willie McGinest needs to be replaced. Bill Belichick goes ahead and grabs a very similar player in Wimbley. He should make an impact right away and he will continue to get better over the years. Great pick by the Patriots.

22. San Francisco 49ers: Darnell Bing, Safety, USC
SF trades 2nd rnd and 3rd rnd to Den for 1st rnd (22nd ovrl)
The 49ers have been eyeing Bing since the combine. They were hoping to get him in the 2nd round, but they traded that pick away to the Broncos to move up to this spot. He wouldn't have been picked between #22 and #37 (their 2nd round pick), so this trade is really senseless. They basically gave up a 3rd round pick to get the player they would most likely have gotten anyway.

23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chad Jackson, Wide Reciever, Floida
The Bucs are lucky to get one of the 3 great recievers in this draft. Nobody would have expected Jackson to fall this far, but ever team seems to have a more pressing need that wide reciever. The Bucs happily take Jackson, who will become the playmaking wideout they have been looking for since they signed Keyshawn Johnson. Chad will join with Michael Clayton to make one of the best young recieving duos in the league.

24. Cincinnati Bengals: Leonard Pope, Tight End, Georgia
Marvin Lewis gives Carson Palmer yet another weapon to play with.

25. New York Giants: Demeco Ryans, Outside Linebacker, Alabama
Demeco Ryans, Outside Linebacker, Alabama With the addition of LaVarr Arrington, Tom Coughlin sees the light in having a complete defense. Adding this one last playmaker could finally turn the Giants into a Super Bowl contender.

26. Chicago Bears: Dominique Byrd, Tight End, USC
The Bears want to get a TE and a WR in this draft, so they get the best player at one of those positions available.

27. Carolina Panthers: Maurice Drew, Running Back UCLA
Maurice Drew had a terrible combine. That's the only reason that he falls this far. There are some scouts out there who shill have him ranked higher than Joseph Addai and DeAngelo Williams despite this. The Panthers get a terrific back to provide insurance for DeShaun Foster.

28. Jacksonville Jaguars: Joseph Addai, Halfback, LSU
The Jags get a great back to help take the burden off Fred Taylor. Addai's stock flew to top 15 status, but he falls because every team seems to have greater needs than a running back.

29. New York Jets: Nick Mangold, Center, Ohio State
The Jets really make an effort to improve that offensive line. They replace the departed and old Kevin Mawae with a guy who could turn out to be just as good. This O-line will be terriffic for years to come.

30. Indianappolis Colts: DeAngelo Williams, Halfback, Memphis
Why in the world did Williams fall all the way to 30? That's what the Colts will be saying when their turn comes. They'll take Williams and they won't miss a beat. All this kid does is produce. He set tons of records without any supporting cast. Imagine what he'll be capable of in Indianappolis where defenses will be focusing on Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning.

31. Seattle Seahawks: Sinorice Moss, Wide Reciever, Miami (Fla.)
The Seahawks get a Steve Smith type player who will be a great compliment for they rest of the offense. He'll fit in perfectly and he'll help the Seahawks in their quest to return to the Super Bowl.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers: LenDale White, Halfback, USC
White could have gone in the top 15 if he hadn't torn his hamstring. The Steelers realized right away tht the injury would hurt his stock and they pounced. They brought him in for workouts, interview, and anything else they could think of. Nothing seems to have deterred their interest, so I'm guessing that they aren't worried about the injury or his supposed laziness stemming from a refusal to run the 40 at the combine. He'll be a great back in that Steeler system. This is the best place he could have ended up.
